Guests of the Emperor or How a bag of rice spoke to me

  And there it is! A 20 pound bag of white rice, just sitting there on the lowest grocery store shelf minding its own business. But somehow, maybe from some future universe, it called to me. Several years ago there was a book topping the NEW YORK best sellers list of a true story of a particular Japanese POW camp during WWII. Interesting enough, but in this tale the Japanese POWs captured were entitled English women on vacation on an island in the south China sea . Japan made the decision to jump into the war in a blaze of glory by taking the wives and daughters of various high ranking English military officials before the women could secure arrangements to get off the island and make it home safely. The book was called “ Guests of the Emperor .” Hearing that there were important people on an island belonging to the English Monarchy, the Emperor ordered Japanese soldiers to snatch up these women and hold them hostage and put them on a inconspicuous Japanese sea vessel. No daylight yet penetrates the kitchen window as I make my way over to the coffee maker and hit the button. A piercing green eye awakens the room with just enough light I’m able to find my way around. I stop for a moment and gaze out the window over the sink. The northern sky is bright with a glowing radiance from the sun slapping his powerful waves towards earth. A flash of brilliance momentarily lights the whole sky with spotlight of color so powerful it fills my kitchen with it’s glow, then just as quickly fades away. What a show!     I notice an ambient orange glow from the living room from the remnants of last night warming fire. I make my way to the woodstove and poke it disturbing the glowing coals. “The man is not sick because he has an illness he has an illness because he is sick.”  An Old Chinese Proverb Years ago, well actually shortly before C-19 came into being, I had a scary dream/vision sort of thing. In this dream/vision sort of thing there was a city with lots of people mulling around and the word  Bacteria  came across my dream screen. I woke up. Later, maybe the following year, C-19 lockdowns began. How odd, I thought, as my brain reminisced about the dream/vision sort of thing I had. My dream must have missed the mark on that one. In the last 20 years or so there has been the appearance of H1N1, a subtype of the influenza virus, SARS as a related coronavirus, MERS also related to coronavirus, and Ebolavirus which the CDC has a patent on it and the vaccine. Of course there are other viruses, but, I”m thinking outside the box here. What if all these new vaccines are to weaken/destroy our human immune system and suddenly there are no antibiotics to be had a...
